In 2010, I joined my friends Erik Hersman and Jessica Colaco in Nairobi to build the *iHub_, one of the first coworking space in the vibrant capital. I initially joined as a simple construction volunteer but quickly got involved with the design, engineering and the running of the construction site. After a few weeks, I replaced the Construction Manager and coordinated the different professionals on site.
In a few months, *iHub_ became not only Kenya, but East Africa most popular tech hub, organising hundreds of events, facilitating thousands of jobs in East Africa burgeoning tech industry. It was amazing to be part of a small dynamic team that supports a blooming ecosystem in a rapidly developing country. Sponsors competed to provide free services. Celebrities such as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the President himself visited the community space years after.
