Critical Zones

»Critical Zones« Discussion of the Film »Storytelling for Earthly Survival« ZKM | Karlsruhe

Dominika Szope, Barbara Kiolbassa, Anett Holzheid (ZKM): Maybe the question from Carina could be interesting, because she asked: "Are techno-fix solutions towards the problem of climate change just fictional expectations in the dynamic of capitalism?". Donna Harraway: I wish it were fictional in the sense of not real. I think capitalist apparatuses have the material and financial and narrative power to make real what they imagine. That realisation of the world in that sense is a project. Do I think it will fail? Yes Do I think it will do immense damage in the process of crashing? Yes. So, it's fictional, but not in the sense of merely imaginary.

»Critical Zones« Discussion on the Film »Storytelling for Earthly Survival« with Donna Haraway (biologist, philosopher, feminist), Bruno Latour and Peter Weibel

The exhibition »Critical Zones – Observatories for Earthly Politics« is about the critical situation of the Earth. Due to the Coronavirus it is also taking place at a critical time. A new Earth policy also requires a new exhibition policy: We are broadcasting!

The growing exhibition at the ZKM will be combined with a digital exhibition that will also grow steadily. The museum will become a »home museum« with a virtual accompanying program.

On May 22, 2020, from 6 pm CEST, the exhibition will open with a Streaming Festival lasting several days, which will span the weekend of May 22–24, 2020. The program will consist of streamed guided tours through the virtual spaces as well as through the real, but not publicly accessible exhibition, and will include interviews and lectures.
